Prague, 6 February 2018 – There were over 114 thousand used cars offered for sale in the Czech Republic in January and over one third of these were imported. Their price was an average of CZK 129,500. The age of the offered vehicles ranged around 9.6 years with a mileage of 155,300 km. AAA AUTO, which has continuously monitored the used car market for several years, has switched to a new method of data processing. Instead of average values, it takes the so-called median into consideration, a value that has a much higher evidential value and characterises the used car market more accurately.
There were 114,175 cars offered on the Czech used car market in January, which is 5.4% more than in the previous month. “The winter this year is very mild, which is why the demand and supply of vehicles is greater than is usual at the beginning of the year,” explains the CEO of the international network of AAA AUTO Autocenters, Karolína Topolová, and she warns, “Over a third of advertised vehicles are not of Czech origin, which for interested parties means a high risk of a rolled back odometer, unclear history or serious technical defects. I recommend avoiding these vehicles and buying vehicles from proven dealers, that can guarantee the vehicles they offer.“ By default, the highest number of vehicles was offered in the capital city of Prague (24,423), conversely, the lowest number of cars was offered to customers in the Karlovy Vary Region (2,825).
The amount for which dealers advertised used cars in January was most frequently CZK 129,950, which means a month-on-month decline by CZK 5,050. This most frequently concerned diesel cars (60.3%), in spite of the fact that there is more interest in "petrol engines" according to the statistics of the largest used car dealer in Central and East Europe. 3.4% of the offered cars used alternative fuels, most frequently LPG or CNG.
The most popular model in the hypothetical ranking TOP 10 was the Škoda Octavia, of which 11,988 vehicles were offered in the Czech Republic in January. The smaller “sister” of the Czech brand, the Škoda Fabia, came second. There were 8,325 of these items available in January. The Volkswagen Passat came in third place, with 3,554 items.
